General MyChores news
I have decided to take a day of holiday on the first Monday of each month – i’m going to call it MyChores Monday! I enjoy programming MyChores so much, and i have a lot of plans, so i’m taking an extra day to dedicate to it! This Monday, the 5th February will be my first MyChores Monday. I’m not committing myself to the whole year yet, but i’ll see how it goes in February and March.
I intend to compile some statistics about the month just gone, and put together some nice charts. Once again it was our busiest month to date, with over 1,300 tasks completed. We also hit 200 members towards the end of the month, and MyChores is now tracking more than 4,000 tasks in total! The number 1 task every month without fail is “Water plants”, and i plan to do a Top 10 league table. I may also put up how many tasks completed in each timezone.
What i will never do is single out individual people, nor will i give any way for people to compare themselves against other people. Everyone uses MyChores in a different way, for different purposes, so you will not see a Top 10 Busiest People, nor will you know who has completed any task. I feel so strongly about this, i included it in the new privacy statement.
Something else i am working towards is getting the MyChores codebase just the way it should be, ready for two smaller projects to break away from it. These new projects are provisionally entitled:
MyChores Mobile – a cut-down version of the main site, completely integrated, but better for viewing on PDAs, mobile phones, and also good for text-only browsers.
MyChores for Kids – suggested by skooz who is kindly working with me, contributing a lot of knowledge and experience so that together we can produce a site which will excite and motivate young children. Think icons, animations and coloured stars! Again, it will be completely integrated with MyChores – in fact all the task management will still be done on the main site, to keep the kids’ site as simple as possible.
I am really excited about both of these new sites! Look out for news about these coming later in the year. If anyone else would like to contribute ideas, or help test the new sites, please do get in touch :)
