RSS Feeds

RSS feeds are now available. I’m not completely sure i’ve got the MIME type right – it’s coming out as application/xhtml+xml for me, but FeedValidator.org still claims it’s text/html. Hmm. Well it seems to work on Firefox Live Bookmarks and Google Personalised Homepage. Please let me know if you have any difficulties in other feed readers.

I should take a moment to explain a few decisions i made in terms of the RSS feeds. We have a conflict of interest, in that feeds should be personal and private … yet feed readers aren’t logged into MyChores, so the feeds have to be public.

To get around this problem, each team has a unique, un-guessable code which is used for the RSS feed. The only person who can find out the feed URL of each team is the person who ‘owns’ (created) the team.

Of course, you may decide to make your team’s URL publicly known, syndicated on LiveJournal or whatever. That’s up to you.

I decided to make the RSS feeds work on teams – so it gives all tasks completed by everybody within that team. I could also do a feed for each person. If anyone’s interested in that, please let me know and i’ll do it.

To access your RSS feed, go to your team and click the orange RSS icon. If you are a member of a team but you didn’t create it, you’ll have to ask the team creator for the feed URL.
