Twitter Integration!
MyChores now supports Twitter Integration!
If you have a Twitter account, and wish to have MyChores update it whenever you complete a task, you will find the option under ‘Preferences → Twitter Integration settings’.
You need to enter your Twitter email address and your Twitter password. Your Twitter password will be stored using a two-way encryption algorithm. I’d normally use one-way encryption, but of course i need to supply Twitter with your password to make an update on your behalf. All i can do is give my word that your password will be safe. Although i could potentially decrypt it to work out what it is, i promise that i will not.
Updates to Twitter can be customised to your liking. The standard is Doing my chores: {LIST}: {TASK}. The placeholders {LIST} and {TASK} will be populated when it makes an update. You could also include {TEAM} if you wanted. See http://twitter.com/sermoa to see how an update looks on Twitter.
Finally, you can choose which lists make a Twitter update and which don’t. This gives you some control of privacy. In addition, Twitter can protect your entries if you don’t want the whole world seeing them.
I must say a big THANK YOU to my friend Scott for telling me about Twitter, and suggesting the integration. I also thank Twitter themselves for providing such a wonderfully simple API to allow this to happen! :)
I know some people will not want to use this – it’s no problem, you can just ignore it and nothing will change for you. But for those who think this might be fun, please have a go with it, and let me know how you get on! I’m very excited and i hope you enjoy using it.
