Rotating Assignments

With thanks to MazzaRC for the suggestion, i’m pleased to announce that MyChores now supports Rotating Assignments. (I feel like making that a trademark or something!)

Basically, when a task is set up with rotating assignment, every time it is completed, it will automatically move on to the next person in the team. So if you want to take it in turns to clean the bath, that’s how you do it.

Obviously this won’t be of any use if you just use MyChores by yourself, but for those of you who have teams set up, this may be useful.

Remember, you can re-assign all tasks in a list in one go, if you click on the list and then ‘Re-assign tasks’. The rotating assignment ticky box is supported there too.

At the moment, rotating assignments move between all members of the team. I did think about having ticky boxes to include/exclude people, but i realised it would become really messy when people join or leave a team. If anybody desperately wants me to implement this, let me know and i’ll look into it again.

If you’re curious about the order of rotation …

When you first set a task as rotating, if you don’t specify who gets the assignment first, it’ll default to the first person to have joined the team. Very likely, that’s the person who created the team.

From then on, it moves through the people in the order that they joined MyChores. It’s pretty arbitrary, actually, i could have done it in any number of ways (date they joined the team, by name, by login, etc). When it has cycled through all the people in the team it starts at the beginning again.

I have tested this pretty thoroughly, but there could still be un-anticipated circumstances. If you get an error, please try to let me know exactly what you were doing at the time the error occurred.

Thanks!
