So … mychores.co.uk has begun to see the light of day! For months this has been an idea floating around in my mind, gradually gaining form and structure.
Thanks to the most excellent Ruby on Rails, I have managed to put this all together in about 3 weeks! I must say, it’s been a joy learning to code in Ruby, and Rails makes it so easy to interact with the database. I wouldn’t say i’m an expert yet, not by any means – some of the things i’ve got it to do, and i’ve no idea really how it works at all – it just does!
I must say a huge thank you to Paul at Rushed Sunlight who has been a superstar in helping me get set up. Thank you very much indeed!
Just for my own record, here’s an overview of what’s in mychores so far, and what i’m intending to add in the near future:
Achieved so far:
- Basic page layout, icons and colour scheme
- XHTML 1.0 compliance
- CSS compliance
- Basic Team/List/Task functionality
- Textile formatting for descriptions
- Registration and login functionality
- Registration auto-creates a default team and list
- Account management, change password
- Security of tasks and lists
- Task recurrence (daily/weekly/monthly)
- Ability to mark a task as done, and have it calculate the next time the task is due
- History of the last five times a task was done
- Workload list including colours to indicate priority
- Invitations to join teams, with accept/decline
- Got this Typo journal set up!
