Sorry for the downtime

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

MyChores is currently temporarily unavailable. We are just trying to configure it to use Capistrano. Hopefully we’ll be back very soon! Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
Update
Okay, we are back up and now using the new Capistrano configuration. Apologies for the yo-yo effect today. I hope you weren’t too badly affected. Also i must [...]

Fantastic news!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

MyChores has just received its first public contribution!
Matthew Saddler reduces the describe_recurrence method by 2KB!
This is great news. There is a lot of code like this. It works, but it’s bulky and ugly and crying out for refactoring. Thank you very much for this improvement, Mat! :D

Donate to MyChores

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Whilst browsing github just now i accidentally stumbled upon an option for donations. I accidentally clicked it and entered my email address and before i knew it, wow, i had an account set up on Pledgie!

Going open source has inspired not just me, but at least two other people to clone the code and work [...]

CSS change

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I have changed the CSS … purely selfish really … the ‘Trebuchet MS’ was breaking on my netbook and falling back to some ugly serif font. So i’ve changed to ‘Lucida Grande’. If this causes any issues for anyone, please shout.

MyChores has gone open source!

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This is an exciting moment, and a terrifying one. The source code of MyChores is on the internet for anyone to see, contribute towards, copy, distribute, sell, sneer at … whatever! MyChores is hereby released under the MIT License, which completely supports my philosophy of free software - free in every sense of the word.
What [...]

Tiny weeny improvements

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Today i have taken some enormous steps and made some tiny fixes!
I have installed Cucumber and begun writing some tests. That’s one enormous step! I have also opened a MyChores account on Lighthouse for bug tracking. I am hoping that Exceptional will automatically open tickets for me. When MyChores goes open-source, as i definitely intend [...]

Fixes and changes

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

My gosh, it has been a long time since i did any work on MyChores. I am not making any big changes at the moment, because i feel the need to dedicate a lot of time to writing tests and tidying up the code, and i just haven’t had that time. So a lot of [...]

In Remembrance

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

In tribute to all who have suffered and died in warfare, there is a ‘Poppies’ theme available on MyChores. It is available all year round, but i thought i’d just post a little reminder since we are coming up to remembrance day. The theme is available by going to Help Centre and then Themes.

I give [...]

Google JavaScript Libraries

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Today’s minor piece of news: we are now using Prototype and Script.aculo.us hosted by Google AJAX Libraries API. What does this mean? To most of you, nothing whatsoever. Everything should just continue working as before. It may be a little bit faster, since i hear Google have some pretty nifty web servers!
The other good reason [...]
