RSS Feeds

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

RSS feeds are now available. I’m not completely sure i’ve got the MIME type right – it’s coming out as application/xhtml+xml for me, but FeedValidator.org still claims it’s text/html. Hmm. Well it seems to work on Firefox Live Bookmarks and Google Personalised Homepage. Please let me know if you have any difficulties in other feed [...]

Sorry - again - for the downtime

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

We went down for another few hours last night. I think i know what causes it, but i don’t know why. At least i can hopefully avoid it happening again, until Rushed Sunlight can help me understand why it’s happening at all.
Two bits of news: I got an article published on GoArticles.com – you can [...]

Sorry for the down time

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Sorry to anyone who wanted to do their chores earlier and couldn’t because MyChores was broken!
I’m not even sure what quite happened … it may well have been something that i did – that’ll teach me to fiddle with domains so early in the morning, lol! Anyway, we seem to be back to normal again [...]

Sign-up process too slow

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

We have a problem with the sign-up process – it’s too slow. The web server seems to time out before all the tasks have been created and the welcome email sent.
To combat this problem i’ve implemented something that i’ve wanted to do for ages: an email queue. The idea is that it stores an email [...]

Tiny little inconsequential update

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I extended the site supporter status field in order to recognise people who support MyChores in more than one way. For example, some people’s status is now ‘Early Adopter and Site Contributor’. Previously i’d have to choose one or the other. It doesn’t actually make any difference to your options, but i like to give [...]

HTML emails

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Here’s an update especially for jinkies and a couple of other people who said it would be a good idea: HTML emails!
This means that your daily/weekly email (if you choose to receive them) will now contain links so that you can tick chores straight out of the email.
If you don’t want to receive HTML emails [...]

Quick ticking with AJAX - totally Web 2.0!

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

This update is a real treat – think of it as an early Christmas present!
When you tick off tasks, you no longer have to wait for MyChores to work out the next due date, check if it needs to be re-assigned, maybe make a Twitter post … it now does all that behind the scenes.
All [...]

One-off tasks and inactive tasks

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Thanks to a suggestion from Otterylexa, you can now record one-off tasks on MyChores. You set up a one-off task in the same way as any other task, but you tick the ‘one-off’ ticky box.
When a one-off task is complete, it changes the status to inactive. This means it no longer appears on the workload [...]

Speed Issues, export to spreadsheet, and general news

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Sorry about the slow speed of MyChores over the last 24 hours. I fiddled with the .htaccess file last night, blatantly not having a clue what i was doing, and ended up skewing everything a little bit. However, we should be back up to the normal speed again now.
Paul from Rushed Sunlight tells me we’re [...]

Another way to become a Site Supporter

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I have decided that if you use MyChores with Twitter Integration, and if your Twitter posts are public, i will make your status ‘Site Promoter’. The reason being that each post that MyChores makes to Twitter contains a link back to www.mychores.co.uk so it’s effectively a bit of free advertising! :)
Now i just need to [...]
